Silk Ikat - A Love Story

One of our favorite textile shipments just arrived in the store - silk ikat pillows -- lots of them - 324 to be exact!  Hand loomed in Uzbekistan from sumptuous silk, each pattern involves a painstaking process.  Raising silkworms, washing untold numbers of silk cocoons, hand-winding miles of silk thread, carefully marking the designs on the warp of the loom, hand tying the separate colors for their dye application -- and then there is the velvet process of cutting the thread to make soft pile...  it's head-spinning crazy to think of all the work. 

We buy hundreds of meters of silk ikat fabric that is the narrow width of traditional looms. Our lumbar pillows are made in two lengths using just one width of fabric - while our big Euro sized squares are two widths of the original fabric carefully matched up and stitched together in our friends' atelier in Istanbul.  

Famously vibrant and full of unexpected, yet incredibly versatile, color combinations, ikat has a timeless appeal for a wordly, sophisticated look.  Grown up bohemian-luxe, the sumptuous fabrics look wonderful in any room of the house.  

Even without color, the neutrals pack a fabulous, graphic punch and enliven rooms with their bold patterns. 

Email or call us and we can send images of the different colors and patterns that fit your home! Each of the silk ikat pillows come with a plump down/feather blend insert.  The 24" squares are big and dramatic and work well on beds as well as sofas.

They are $160 each.  The lumbars come in two sizes - smalls are $90, and the medium size is $120.  We can ship these anywhere.
